Gear Recommendations for Gigging Musicians
Here are some recommended products and pratices from my personal experiences. Your mileage may very.
Power Distribution
Instead of having multiple extention cords and power strips daisy-chained all over the stage, I use these extention cords with six outlets evenly distributed over their length. I put one in front of the stage for monitors, pedalboards, etc., and one in the back for amps. The outlets have an indicator ligtht letting you know there is power. I cut off the outlet covers intended for protection during outdoor use.
I also add these Hug-A-Plug adapters everywhere to easily convert one outlet into two.
These 15-feet 3-Outlet extentions cords are also handy to have on hand.
Cable Management
These velcro ties are cheap and easy to use for all of your cables. I use them everywhere. Whenever I run multiple cables between two points, I try to setup a "custom snake" using this 1/2" wire loom that is easy to install and re-use due to its split design. Each person could have their own with instrument, microphone, and monitor return as one, neat bundle. Be sure to label your cables (and everything else that you can). I use the Brother P-Touch Label Maker Model PTH111 as it can create cable flags and cable wraps along with standard labels.
